IS ACUPUNCTURE SAFE?

With thousands of years of practice and modern anatomical studies about acupoints, proper needling depths, directions, and manipulating techniques for most common points have been documented in acupuncture textbooks.  Since acupuncture is relatively safe when practiced by a licensed and experienced practitioner, adverse reactions to acupuncture therapy are indeed very rare, i,e, bending of the needle (which can be withdrawn easily without specific assistance) or needle sickness (which never really poses actually health hazard) are seldom seen. Nowadays, most acupuncturists in the West nowadays prefer the usage of pre-sterilized, disposable needles, which assures that there are no risks of transmission of communicable disease from the needles to the patient.
