Transcript: How does acupuncture work? Mechanisms of
acupuncture therapy can be simplified as reflexes. There are 14
meridians distributed throughout the body surface, that are recognized
as physiological and pathological reflexive connections between
different parts of the body, interior and exterior, upper and lower,
left and right, anterior and posterior. Once there are illness occurs,
some positive appearance shows on certain spots of the body surface.
Ancient Chinese call these spots acupoints. Reversely, applying direct
needling or moxibustion on these points, can input therapeutic
intervention into the body, and activate self-healing capabilities,
such as raise endorphin, cortisone levels, balance hormones, regulate
the immunological system and other neuro-humoral systems. Almost all
therapeutic effects of acupuncture are realized through these
responses.
